Sree Renuka Mariamman Kovil is a 200 year old temple which is reconstructed by 11 family crew lead by (Late) Sri. V. Dandapani Achari in the year 1989.
In Kozhikode there are only two temples of Tamil Vishwakarma communities. One at Vadakku Theruvu Sree Badrakali Mariamman Temple Near CH Over Bridge, Mananchira, Kozhikode which is almost 250 years old. And the other one is Sree Renuka Mariamman Kovil Situated in Palayam, Kozhikode. Temple is now owned by a crew of Vishwakarma community members [Registered under HR&CE in the year 1996] which is also known as Achary, Kammalar, or Viswa Brahmanar.
In ancient Tamil, the word which has lost its roots in usage ‘Maari’ would mean rain and ‘Amman’ would literally mean mother but here “mother nature.” She was believed and worshiped by the ancient Dravidian people to bring rain and hence prosperity to them as their vegetation was mainly dependent upon rain.
Muneeswaran, Uchimahakali, Veerabhadran, Gandhari Amman, Chudalamadan, Ghandakarnan, Bhairavan, Pechiamman, Ayyappan, Murugan, Ganapathy & Nagam are the other idols in the Temple
