About Temple

Temple located at Porkalengad near Kunnamkulam of Thrissur district in Kerala. With only two women remaining in the family, members of Ubhayaoor illam, residents of janmam parambu, porkalangad surrendered their land in the name of Sree Guruvayoorappan .Guruvayoor devaswom decided to lend the land to shri.Nampalattu Govindankutti Menon . The devaswom was later brought under government rule . The lending continued for 12 years . A Bengali brahmin named Rao was the government representative at that time. This land served as the 'Goshala' for the devaswom during this period . Milk for the day to day activities of the temple was obtained through this goshala. Later when the government rule ended, the land was lend to a man named Raghavan Nair and he was followed by Kolady Shankarankutty Menon. He then transferred all rights to sri Ramachandran Nair, the son of samoothiri. They resided at a building near by.As per the interests of the surrendered the devaswom performed yearly 'guruthi',' pooja' for family dieties namely 'raktheshwari', 'manikandan','ashtanagas' and all items and expenses along with additional expenses like housekeeping and 'vilakkuveppu' were also taken care of .Later as the 'perali',illam all the rituals were performed by the namboothiri family heads of the respative generations. Due to the illness of present head shri.Sreekumaran Namboothiri, others are authorised to perform the rituals.
The land reform acts enabled the residents shri Ramachandran Nair and family to gain control over the land. The continued the rituals. After the death of shri Ramachandran Nair, it became hard for his old wife to continue the tradition. All their children are living abroad in order to elevate the temple from its ordeals to its former state, the temple was handed over to a committee governs the temple with the help of local interventions. It has been almost 4 years since this committee was first formed. Presently there is an office, a 'thidappili', an 'oottupura' and a 'chuttumathil' situated in the 16 cent temple plot. An appropriate 'Gopura' for the temple is under construction. A childreen's satsang is present as a part of cultural activities. The rare ashtanaga prathista in the temple will undoubtedly bring prosprity to the land and people of kerala. The committee has devised plans for the facelifting of srikovil and the courtyard of the temple. A handsome amount is expected from the devaswom for executing the same.

The application for yearly alms provided by Guruvayoor devaswom to smaller temples is attached with this letter . I humbly request for the application to be accepted and the amount to be alloted in a prompt manner.

( Information – as narrated by edamana mana Sreekumaran Namboothiri (92) from his memory )
