About Temple

Thiruvenkatapuram Sree Mahavishnu Temple is one of the fastest growing temples in central Travancore. The temple is located at Vazhappally, north of Changanassery town. Thiruvenkadapuram Temple is located about 400 m east of the famous Vazhappally Sri Mahadevar Temple, dedicated to Parasurama, which is under the Travancore Devaswom Board, facing west towards Sri Mahadevan.

The temple and its adjoining land, which had been in ruins for centuries, were taken over by the Kerala Temple Preservation Committee and renovated in 1996. There are many devotees who have experienced the blessings of Thiruvenkatapuresan. Therefore, the number of devotees visiting this holy temple is increasing day by day.

Sri Thiruvenkidapuresan is an idol brought and worshiped by foreign Brahmins in ancient times. Although it was an idol similar to Chaturbahu and Sri Guruvayoorappan as Shankha Chakragadapadmadhari, it was worshiped by foreign Brahmins in the concept of Tirupati Venkatachalapathy.

Hence the names Thiruvenkidapuram and Thiruvenkidapuresan became famous. For a long time, Aishwarya used to bless the devotees completely, but later the temple came under the control of the Thekkumkur dynasty. The temple flourished and gained prominence under the monarchy.

It is believed that a king of the Chembakassery family bought the temple from the king of Thekkumkoor and gave the Thiruvenkidapuram Varyam to the ancestral Acharyas as Gurudakshina. Gradually, after their demise, the former temple dwellers from Manikandhapuram got the temple and their property.

Centuries later, a fire destroyed all the temple walls except the five-storied floor of the shrine and the mandapam. As a result, the temple and the courtyard of the temple were destroyed and the lights were removed.

On April 22, 1996, the deities of Lord Vishnu and his sub-deities were celebrated in the month of May under the star Makairam. The main festival of the place is the Dedication Day at the Makairam Nakshatra in Medam.

The temple is also known as the temple where Krishnanattam was performed continuously from the first dedication day of Thiruvenkidapuresan. Krishnanattam is performed by Guruvayoor Kshetrakalanilayam.

The vision of the iconic and beautiful idol of Thiruvenkatapuresa creates waves of devotion and self-consciousness within the devotee. The feeling experienced by the devotee when he sees the all-bright and beautiful idol during the Deeparadhana in an atmosphere saturated with the vibrations of mantras, bells, chants and camphor is as indescribable as the direct vision of Yogeshwara Vaikunthanathan.
