About Temple

Eramathoor Shaneeshwara Temple is the only temple in Kerala with Lord Shaneeshwara as main deity.
In Hindu mythology, the planet Saturn is referred to as Shani. Due to the special status accorded to the planet in Indian culture, Shani is referred to as ‘Ishwara’ or ‘Shaneeswara’. Saturn is considered as the most malefic planet when in adverse positions, but its wrath can be prevented by performing special poojas & offerings such as Dwitheeya Shanivara Maseshti , Nirajanam, etc., for which the Eramathoor Shaneeshwara Temple is well known for.

Those who seek relief from Shani dosham (wrath of Saturn) should visit Shaneeshwara Temple, pray and perform pariharams (remedials).

Welcome to the only Shaneeshwara – Rahu – Ketu Temple in Kerala
Those who seek relief from Shani dosham (wrath of Saturn) should visit Shaneeshwara Temple, pray and perform pariharams (remedials).

During ancient times, Eramathoor was a place where a lot of Brahmins lived. They used to perform holy yagas and poojas within the village at the present day Eramathoor Nadakashala which is now better known as Nadala.
There are proofs for the existence of Shaiva culture in this land holy land of yagas and havanams. Until the last 50 years, this holy land belonged to a prominent Brahmin Mutt. They have lost the land courtesy the state’s land development act. The culture and tradition of worshipping lord Shaneeshwara is believed to be adopted from these Brahmin immigrants from the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu. Even local folklore point towards, the existence of the temple and its traditions from beyond time immemorial.

The word ‘Shani’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Shanaih Charaha’ meaning ‘slow mover’. Shani is the indicator of asceticism or renouncement of the material world.

In Indian astrology, Shaneeswara is the karaka (indicator) of discipline, authority, old age, asceticism, misery, workers, delays, ambition, leadership and authority, integrity, reputation and unparalleled wisdom. Also indicated are practicality, hard work, non attachment, reliability and spirituality.
Shaneeswara is the slowest moving planet among the navagrahas (nine planets) * taking 2 ½ years to complete a revolution. As per the planetary positions of Saturn in the zodiac, people born in different rashis (zodiac signs) are said to experience good/ill effects as attributed to Lord Shaneeswara.

People governed by Saturn (having Shaneeswara in favourable positions in natal horoscopes) can attain highest success and become invincible, if they are ready to control the desire for material comforts and surrender to higher will. During planetary influences of Shaneeswara, if the native performs good deeds, respects the elderly and donates a portion of his earnings to the poor and needy, immense wealth can be obtained with good reputation. Saturn is considered as the most malefic planet when in adverse positions, but its wrath can be prevented by showing kindness towards helpless and poor, forgiving the wrong doers and giving up attachments towards materialistic possessions and comfort.

Suitable pariharams (remedial deeds) need to be performed during adverse transits/periods of Shaneeswara.
