About Temple

Vallikunnam Padayanivettam Devi Temple is an ancient temple that is over a thousand years old. Padayani, Thottampattu and Kalamezhuthumpattum are still performed in this temple, which is consecrated by the presence of Sri Durga and Sri Bhadra Bhagavathi. There are many examples of the blessings that have befallen those who have come in prayer before the rising goddesses of the land. Devotees from all over the country are flocking to the temple to receive the blessings of the Goddess Bhaktavatsala, the antidote to sorrow and auspiciousness.

It is one of the few great temples where two Goddesses reside as the main deities. Sridurga and Sribhadra are the two forms of Parasakti, the form of Omkara. Devotees therefore worship and adore both deities with equal importance.

Apart from the main deities, Balaganapati and Yakshiyamma are also present in the temple. Outside the enclosure are the deities Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Yogishwaran, Ghandakarna, Madan, Rakshas, Marutha, Murthy and Yakshi. There is also a Shiva temple on the north side outside the perimeter.

The main deities are to be seen after bowing down to all the deities outside the precincts. Women should not perform darshan by removing their hair. Visiting the temple on Tuesdays and Fridays is very special. Since Sri Durga and Bhadra are equally important to the Bhagavad Gita, the deities are raised outside the shrine in special lives. There are very few temples with such a ritual.

The temple is governed by representatives from seven parts of the Vallikunnam area. Mother's blessings help us to be free from the sorrows of Kali Yuga and to lead a prosperous life.

May all the devotees receive the blessings of Padayani Vettamma, the antidote to sorrow and prosperity.
