About Temple

Puthuvila Sree Bhadrakali Temple, one of the greatest Bhadra and Durga Temple located at Kavanadu, Kollam District. The Goddess (Devi) in this temple is worshipped as the Supreme Mother, creator of all living beings and the mighty preserver as well as destroyer of them all.
To the east of Kavanad Junction is a temple where Lord Bhadra and Lord Durga rule with equal importance. The festival begins every year on the day of Rohini in the month of May and ends on the day of Makam, the festival of the Goddess. The seven-day festival includes special ceremonies such as Annadanam, Thottampattu and Guruthi.
In addition, Chirappu is held for 41 days during the constituency.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Naga and Yogeshwara sub deities. Dark jaggery payasam and saffron anointing (Kunkumabhishekam) are the main offerings.
Puthuvila Devi is famously known as the Mother who answers the call of her devotees. Countless pilgrims irrespective of caste creed and colour reach the shrine. The benevolent look of Goddess unfolds a thousand lotus flowers of real bhakthi in the minds of devotees. Chanting of Her names and mantras destroys the feelings of ignorance and pride like the flames of fire that overcomes the darkness. Many are the miracles that we see right in front of the Goddess.
