The famous Pannivizha Sri Mahadeva (Dakshinamoorthy) Temple is located within the city limits of Adoor in Pathanamthitta district. Surrounded by Kottapuram on the west, Ikkad on the east, Thatta on the north and Adoor on the south. It is a land of historical memories. Legend has it that the temple was attacked during the reign of the Chera kings and destroyed by firefighters. It is believed that in the past there was a large golden flagpole in the temple and it was lowered into the pool during the attack. Valiyakulam Arattukulam is located on the eastern side of the temple. In the temple courtyard you can see an ancient large hearth stone. This did not happen despite repeated attempts to raise it. The ancients said that there was a tunnel under it.

പ്രസിദ്ധമായ പന്നിവിഴ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ (ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി) ക്ഷേത്രം പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ അടൂർ നഗരപരിധിയിലാണ് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.. ചരിത്രസ്മരണകളുടെ നാടാണിത്. ചേരരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഭരണകാലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രം ആക്രമിക്കപ്പെടുകയും അഗ്നിശമനസേനാംഗങ്ങൾ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. പണ്ട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വലിയൊരു സ്വർണ്ണക്കൊടിമരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും ആക്രമണസമയത്ത് അത് കുളത്തിലേക്ക് താഴ്ത്തിയിരുന്നതായും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കുഭാഗത്താണ് ആറാട്ടുകുളം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രമുറ്റത്ത് പുരാതനമായ ഒരു വലിയ അടുപ്പുകല്ല് കാണാം. ഇത് ഉയർത്താൻ പലതവണ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും നടന്നില്ല. അതിനടിയിൽ ഒരു തുരങ്കം ഉണ്ടെന്ന് പഴമക്കാർ പറയുന്നു.
