About Temple

Parakode Avaruvelil Sri Bhadrakali Devi Temple is one of the oldest Devi Temples in Kerala. The presiding deity of this temple is the goddess Bhadrkali, who is worshipped here. The temple was built by the avaruvelil family , and so became renowned as Parakode Avaruvelil Sri Bhadrakali Devi Temple. According to established belief, the goddess kodugaloor amma appeared in the form of an old lady (amma) with her parivaram(retinue), in the place where the temple is situated . The temple is surrounded by kavu or groves of trees. The temple structure is believed to be at least thousand years old. The temple situated at Parakode , Adoor in Pathanamthitta district. Goddess Bhadrakali is the main deity of this temple. Goddess durga, Lord ganesha , Lord Shiva Lord Shastha ,Rekshas , Moorthi , Madaswami , Nagaraja & Naga yekshi amma are the sub deities of this temple. Centuries ago, a smallpox epidemic broke out in our country and many people died. At that time there were no temples in our country. During this time, the family of the famous Aruvelil family sent an envoy to the Kodungallur Shree Bhadrakali Devi Temple to bring in a Brahmin to perform the rituals and cure the plague. When the Brahmin youth, who had saved the country from this great disease, returned, he married a girl from this family. He reached Kodungallur and settled in a Brahmin family. The Brahmin died within a few years of the birth of their son. At that time, it was considered bad for widows to live in a Brahmin family. Then the woman, whose life was in distress, took the child to the temple and prayed every day. She wanted to reach her home. One day, while she was worried about her son at the temple Aalthara, Kodungallur Devi came to them in the form of a grandmother. Children, I understand your plight. I told you I could help you get back to your hometown. The next day, the goddess's bodyguards and demons returned to their home at Aruvelil in Parakode. We traveled for a week and reached home. After instructing the mother and son who came with me to go home, I told them that I could rest in this Kalary. The family members and family members who got information from the daughter who came to the house, could not see the grandmother there when they came to the Kalary to receive her. After realizing that her grandmother was the Goddess of Kodungallur, she settled in the Kalary without coming to her home and settled the Goddess there. Later, the demons who came as the protectors of the Goddess settled in the avaruvel around the kalari and in the kavil and in the hills as angels.
