Dravyapara Dakshinamoorthy Temple is the headquarters of 140 Shiva temples in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is believed that the Dravyapara Cave Temple is home to the only natural Shiva lingam in South India. The festival starts at the rest of the temples only after the festival starts here. Dravyapara is also a place that has witnessed many important events that are part of the history of Travancore itself. It is believed that Marthanda Varma was brought to the bottom of the Dravyapara by the adivasis who carved special rocks on the rock. Its 72 steps can still be seen here as a symbol of it.
