Koovalassery Mahadevar Temple is one of the very ancient mighty temples situated in Neyyattinkara Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram District. The temple is located at 7 KM north from Neyyattinkara town. Munchira madom is the owners of this temple who are the temple trustee of Travancore Royal Family. This place was with full of Koovala ( Crateva religiosa – A celestial tree according to Hindu ) which is the favorite worship-flower of Lord Mahadeva. Hence the Cheri ( village ) of Koovala named as Koovalachery and then became as Koovalssery
The temple has been built just 200 meter east from the main road. The holy festival of this temple starts on the star Pooyam of the month Kumbha and ends after 10 days with the holy bath of the Lord. (Aarattu).The temple Thanthri (who performs the main sacrificial rites) is Tharananalloor Mana Sree Parameswaran Namboothiri.
