About Temple

The status of Azhvancheri Thamprakkal among the believers of Sanaathana Dharmam in Kerala is that of a spiritual teacher. Besides, the duties of coronation ( Ariyittuvaazhikkal ) of Kozhikkode Samoothiri and the King of Travancore were vested in Thamprakkal. His presence is essential in Marujapam and in Lakshadeepa samarppanam which takes place once in 12 years. The lifestyle and family tradition of Azhvancheri Thamprakkal differentiate them from other Thamprakkals. It is recorded that their profession is in 'Easwara vicharam' (Pray for humanity). Azhvancheri Thamprakkal came to live in the land of Samoothiri from Marancheri, old Kochi, because they were invited by the Samoothiri. The name ATHAVANAD itself came from Azhvancheri Thamprakkal Vazhum Nadu (the place where the Thamprakkal is living). Vettakkoru Makan is their family deity. It is believed that all our sufferings will be solved, if we open our mind before Azhuvancheri Thamprakkal and accept their suggestions. A lot of people in and out of Kerala are coming to visit Azhvancheri Mana to see Thamprakkal. Vettakkoru Makan is the concept of Saneeswara. So it is essential to be blessed with Vettakkoru Makan to put an end to our sufferings.
