Kurichithanam Poothrukkovil Sree Krishna temple is located on the Kurichithanam - Kudakkachira road near Uzhavoor in Kottayam district, Kerala. The 8-day festival in the temple is observed in such a manner that Pallivetta is held on the previous day of Guruvayoor Ekadashi.
The main deity worshipped in the temple is Sree Krishna and the shrine is popularly known in the region as Dakshina Guruvayoor. The main deity faces west.
The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Bhagavathy, Ganapathy, Shiva, Nagam and Yakshi.
Special rituals are performed on Rohini and Thiruvonam days. Major offerings are Udyasthamana Pooja, Thiruvoanam Pooja, Palppayasam, Neyvilakku etc. Every year, the Ashtami Rohini is celeberated in great vigour. The inaugural session and the Silver jublee session of “ The Akhila Bharatha Sreemad Bhagavatha Sathram” was conducted at this holy land in the years 1983 and 2007.
The most auspicious day here is the grand festival of” Ekadasivilakku” celebrated on the day of Guruvayoor Ekadasi in Vrishchikam. Special poojas are performed with utmost devotion and devotees from far away places would gather here during the festival days to adore Dashavatharam Chandanam Charth and Ekadashi Maholtsavam.
The temple has a great contribution towards education also. A vast area of land was sacrificed for the foundation of Sree Krishna Vocational Higher Secondary School in the year 1946. Temple authorities took great effort for the development of this institution, thereby ensuring the best faculty and quality education to all children.
